Shawn Hornbeck says he prayed every day while he was in custody of the man accused of kidnapping him more than four years ago that he would be reunited with his family. Hornbeck, now 15, interviewed by television star Oprah Winfrey, says he thought about giving up hope, but knew his family never would – so he didn’t. Winfrey says the boy told her off-camera he never tried to escape because he was terrified of what would happen if he did. He says he wants to go back to school and help his dad fix cars. The man charged with kidnapping him in October of 2002, and of kidnapping Ben Ownby earlier this month has made his first court appearance. Michael Devlin has pleaded not guilty to kidnapping the Ownby boy. He’ll be arraigned later in the Hornbeck case.
