The sponsor of the 2005 Workers’ Compensation Law that was passed by the General Assembly and signed by Governor Matt Blunt is pleased with the ruling of a Jefferson City Judge who has struck down a legal challenge to the law. Senator John Loudon of Chesterfield says his law has helped take a lot of cheating out of the workers’ comp system by heloing to ensure employers are only paying workers’ comp benefits to those injured on the job as a result of their work. Cole County Judge Byron Kinder struck down the challenge from unions and others, saying the plaintiffs’ claims are based on factual evidence that has not occurred. He also ruled the plaintiffs did not have standing to bring a lawsuit. Loudon says he would be surprised to see the plaintiffs appeal this ruling.
