New Year’s travel over the holiday weekend cost eight people their lives. Lieutenant John Hotz with the state highway patrol says the patrol investigated 247 traffic crashes leaving 109 people injured and 8 dead. Hotz says the patrol arrested 132 people for driving while intoxicated over the weekend. He says the patrol puts more officers on the busy roads for New Year’s, but he says keeping the roads safe is ultimately up to motorists. He urges motorists to practice safe driving habits and use sober drivers and buckle up whenever they’re on the road.
