An advisory panel that has been reviewing the St. Louis Public Schools for the State Board of Education recommends the board appoint a three-member, non-elected committee to oversee the district for the next six years. The state board appointed the advisory panel amid concerns about political turmoil and poor academic results in St. Louis. The committee analyzed the finances and academics of the St. Louis School District. State Department of Elementary and Secondary Education spokesman, Jim Morris, says department officials are trying to digest the report, which contains a number of recommendations. Morris says the State Board of Education will consider its recommendation during its monthly meeting in January.
