Rams Blanked In Carolina

The Carolina Panthers have no intentions on showing opponents any southern hospitality. Carolina’s defense showed their rudeness sacking Marc Bulger seven times and shutting out the Rams 15-0.

St. Louis was blanked for the first time since 1998. They came into the game averaging 22 points a contest. Even when Bulger managed to get a pass off, his receivers did not help out much. The Rams dropped five passes including three by Isaac Bruce. Bulger finished the day 19-of-34 for 142 yards, no touchdowns, and one interception.

Steven Jackson was nearly a non-factor gaining 27 yards on just seven carries.

DeAngelo Williams filled in for the injured DeShaun Foster at running back and slashed the Rams defense for 114 yards on 20 carries.

St. Louis has dropped five games in a row. They host division-rival San Francisco this weekend.

Mizzou Handles Davidson

Missouri is 5-0 for the first time in four seasons after beating Davidson 81-75. The Tigers ended their two-game losing streak to the Wildcats. Matt Lawrence hit six 3-pointers on his way to a game-high 22 points.

Two other Tigers scored in double-figures as Mizzou shot 44-percent from the field for the game. Stefhon Hannah chipped in with 20 points and six steals. Sophomore Leo Lyons had a breakout game with 18 and eight rebounds.

Mizzou led 34-31 at the half, but Davidson quickly erased that deficit with a 13-4 run to start the second half and take a 43-38 lead. The lead changed hands 12 times in the second half. But Missouri had the lead when the final buzzer went off to get the victory.

Mike Anderson is the first coach at Missouri to start his career 5-0, the first time a coach as done so since 1922.

Blunt Says Republicans Must Learn From Defeat

Southwest Missouri Congressman Roy Blunt says Republicans must learn in defeat what they forgot while in power. Blunt still wields power in Washington, despite Republicans losing control of Congress. Fellow House Republicans have elected him Minority Whip, their number two man. Blunt says Republicans lost their way when they took control 12 years ago. Blunt says Republicans grew comfortable while in power, willing only to challenge the status quo at its edges. He says the things the party had challenged while out of power, it began to use once it came into power, no longer asking what the proper role of the federal government should be. Democrats, emboldened by wins this year, are telling national leaders Missouri is in play. But Blunt says that the more Democratic presidential hopefuls come to Missouri, the better off Missouri Republicans will be. Now that Claire McCaskill has beaten Jim Talent, Democrats take direct aim at Blunt’s son; Governor Matt Blunt. Roy Blunt isn’t worried about that race either. Blunt says his son can speak for himself about his election successes, not just in the governor’s race against McCaskill in 2004, but his win as Secretary of State in 2000 as well. Blunt hopes a debate on the issues will work to the Republican’s advantage and return them to power.
