It is always fun and games until someone gets hurt. People in the Silex community learned that the hard way.
David Jack “D.J.” Chastain III collapsed and died during Silex High School’s first basketball practice of the year Monday night. Chastain, 15, was shooting baskets and running when he hit the floor around 7:45. The team’s coach performed CPR on Chastain, but was unable to help him regain consciousness. He was pronounced dead at about 9:30 p.m. at Lincoln County Medical Center in Troy.
There has been no cause of death determined. Authorities do not believe drugs were involved.
