Mizzou Looking To Give Huskers First Loss

The Missouri volleyball team will take another shot at beating top-ranked Nebraska tonight. The 16th-ranked Tigers head to Lincoln looking to avenge an earlier sweep suffered Oct. 11.

Nebraska (18-0, 10-0) remained unbeaten after beating No. 9 Texas in five games. Sarah Pavan leads the Big 12 Conference with 4.97 kills per match. Jordan Lawson is also a key to the Huskers team. Lawson is second on the squad with 4.27 kills per contest.

Cardinals Take Series Lead

The manager, the trainer, and the umpires met at the mound to examine Chris Carpenter’s hand. Unlike in Game 3 with Kenny Rogers, there was no stain on the pitcher’s hand. There was also no blemish on the effort from Chris Carpenter. The reigning National League Cy Young Award tossed eight shutout innings limiting the Tigers to three hits while striking out six in a 5-0 win for the Redbirds.

Jim Edmonds got St. Louis on the board with a two-run double in the fourth inning. The Cardinals scored two more runs in the seventh before capping the night off with a run in the eighth.

None of the three Tigers hits came from Placido Polanco, Ivan Rodriguez, or Curtis Granderson, who bat 1st, 3rd, and 6th in the lineup respectively. All three of those guys are hitless this series.

Game 4 will be Wednesday barring the forecasted rain storm in the St. Louis area. If the rain delays, Jeff Suppan will start for the Birds against Jeremy Bonderman for Detroit.
