A study of Missouri’s biggest school district shows a major truancy problem, and says the school district is unable to do much about it. The St. Louis Post-Dispatch says St. Louis School District figures show fifth graders missed almost 29 days of school last year, and eighth-graders were gone an average of 34 days. The newspaper says the district does not have the names of parents for 35 percent of the absent children.
