The Royals have reached a royal low point in franchise history. Losing 100 games in a season the first time was bad. The second time was not good either. The third time was embarrassing. Now, for the fourth time in five years it’s mutilating. Kansas City dropped a 2-1, 10 inning decision to the Twins to reach loss No. 100.

Kansas City did almost everything to avoid the distinction, building a 1-0 lead into the ninth and getting to its closer. Well, that’s when Joe Nelson picked a fine time to blow his first save of the season giving up a solo homer to Joe Mauer with two outs.

Jason Bartlett’s RBI single with the bases loaded in the tenth sent the Royals to the century mark.

Luke Hudson pitched well giving KC seven shutout innings on the mound. Joel Peralta did his job in relief with a scoreless eighth. But Nelson and Scott Dohmann were unable to follow suit.
