The no-win battle between Missouri State University and the ACLU is over. The two sides agreed to an out-of-court settlement that was filed in April 2006. The complaint was brought forth by four members of MSU’s women’s tennis team on behalf of the five sports – one women’s and four men’s – that were eliminated as of the 2006-07 school year.

The settlement calls for Missouri State to pay each of the four student-athletes $1,000 each for a total of $4,000.

Missouri State eliminated men’s indoor and outdoor track, men’s cross country, and men’s and women’s tennis in an attempt to alleviate budget problems the school was having. The move is projected to save the school between $350,000 – $500,000 annually.
