She was a bit dehydrated, but otherwise healthy when handed over to shocked Franklin County sheriff’s deputies gathered on a rural intersection, worried that their search would end badly. 11-day-old Abigale Lynn Woods has been returned to her mother after being taken from her home in Lonedell on Friday. Authorities now believe Shannon Beck took the baby after having a full-term miscarriage. She got into the home of 21-year-old Stephanie Ochsenbine by asking to use the phone. Once inside, Beck allegedly attacked Ochsenbine, stabbing her repeatedly, slashing her throat, grabbing the baby and running off. The break in the case came when Beck called her sister-in-law, Dorothy Torrez, and said she had had a baby. Authorities say Torrez told them she visited Beck on Monday and Tuesday. She became suspicious and had an opportunity to be alone with the baby while accompanying Beck to the doctor’s office. Torrez noticed make-up on the baby’s forehead and wiped it off with the baby’s cap, revealing a birthmark that had been publicized by authorities searching for the baby. Torrez and her husband confronted Beck and her husband, eventually getting the couple to give up the baby. Torrez then took the infant to sheriff’s deputies, ending a desperate search that began when Ochsenbine, wounded and bleeding, made it to a neighbor’s house to report that her baby had been taken.
