As the stem cell research debate goes on in Missouri, scientists at the University of Missouri have announced the promising findings of research they’ve been conducting on adult stem cells. Doctor Elmer Price, a scientist at MU’s Dalton Cardiovascular Research Center, says five years of study on pigs have produced some promising results. Within blood samples, the researchers have found an adult stem cell that can be harvested to create other cells that could be used to cure or treat various injuries or conditions. Doctor Price says that while this research on adult stem cells shows promise, it is not meant to halt research on embryonic stem cells. He says study in one area of science should not preclude research in another.
