The Royals have been out of the playoff picture for quite some time, but they still have a magic number and it’s 63.

The number 63 represents the amount of wins Kansas City must get to avoid a 100-loss season. The team has certainly been on the right path recently winning three straight and seven of its last 10. A 10-8 win over the Mariners Thursday night guaranteed Kansas City a better win total than last season’s 56-106 record.

Ryan Shealy led the way with two home runs and five RBI. Esteban German had three hits and three runs driven in.

Odalis Perez didn’t pitch particularly well, but benefited from some good offense to get the win. Perez allowed six runs – five earned – on 10 hits in five innings.

Mariners starter Jarrod Washburn was similarly bad, tossing 4.1 innings and surrendering six runs on 10 hits.
