The St. Louis City School District is inching closer to unaccredited status. Education Commissioner Kent King says test scores have not been satisfactory, and the current situation cannot be allowed to continue. He says a committee looking into the St. Louis Schools situation will deliver a report to the State Board of Education by December 1st, with a series of recommendations that could lead to the Board taking action. King says a decision on accreditation could be made by January. If the District is unaccredited, it would be given two years in which to improve student performance and regain accredited status or face a state takeover. There are currently two unaccredited districts in the state: the Wellston School District in St. Louis County, which is now under state control, and the Wyaconda School District in northeast Missouri.
