The sponsor of the voter photo ID bill will be allowed into the lawsuit challenging it. Senator Delbert Scott of Lowry City will be able to intervene to defend the law. He says the Secretary of State is not defending it and the Attorney General’s staff is not knowledgeable enough to adequately defend it. Cole County Circuit Judge Richard Callahan has already held one hearing in the case. A second hearing is scheduled for Friday. Opponents are challenging the law, saying it creates a situation which is burdensome on some voters. Supporters say the law will make it harder for people to cheat.
