Mark Teahen’s four-hit game combined with a strong start from Odalis Perez helped give the Royals a 5-2 victory over visiting Cleveland Tuesday night.

Teahen knocked Cliff Lee’s offering over the left-center field wall in the bottom of the first for his 16th home run of the year. He later scored on Victor Martinez’s throwing error to give KC a 3-2 lead, one which they would never relinquish.

Perez went seven innings, allowing just two runs on seven hits. Joe Nelson picked up his third save of the year.

The Royals got two insurance runs in the bottom of the eighth, thanks to a Mark Sweeney sacrifice fly and a Joey Gathright RBI groundout. Cleveland tried to make things interesting in the ninth with a leadoff double by Jhonny Peralta, but Nelson shut the door.
