It’s not a tractor pull … and it’s certainly not the pig races … but the Governor’s Ham Breakfast is one of the big events each year at the State Fair. It attracts politicians from throughout the state – both those who are on the ballot this year and those who might or might not run again in the future. And, this year is no different. Governor Matt Blunt hosts the breakfast before taking part in various Fair activities that include meetings with agriculture, food, and beef industry leaders. Senator Talent is here for the breakfast. He’ll be meeting later with farmers who support his bid for reelection. Like Talent, Democratic opponent Claire McCaskill is here for the food. She, too, will be meeting with farmers – farmers who want to see her replace Talent on Capitol Hill. Among the others spending the day in Sedalia, gladhanding with Fair goers: Lieutenant Governor Peter Kinder, State Treasurer Sarah Steelman, Secretary of State Robin Carnahan, Senator Kit Bond, and numerous members of the U.S. House and the Missouri General Assembly. It’s an annual chance for Missouri’s politicians to chow down on good food, shake a few hands, and maybe even ask for a vote or two in November.
