State Treasurer Sarah Steelman says after the reported terrorist plot was uncovered in London last week, authorities in the United Kingdom did something she’s been championing for some time – they got to the money that funds terrorism. Officials moved to freeze the assets of the accused plotters. Steelman has been waging her own war on terror money by setting up what she says is a terror-free Missouri Investment Trust fund and by implementing new rules for investments in the Missouri State Employees Retirement System, or MOSERS. Other MOSERS Board members seemed to fight those changes. Steelman guesses that they did that because cracking down on terrorist money is difficult to do. Steelman says while the changes put in are not perfect, they are a step in the right direction.
