The Royals were playing Friday’s game against the Twins well enough to win. They continued to play that way for eight solid innings. Too bad a major league baseball game is at least nine innings. The Twins rallied from behind to beat the Royals 8-5 in extra-innings.

Reliever Ambiorix Burgos entered the game for the Royals in the ninth inning supposedly to wrap up the game and send the Kauffman faithful home, happy winners. It didn’t take long before it was evident Burgos wouldn’t come through. Joe Mauer and Michael Cuddyer led off the ninth with back-to-back home runs to tie the game at 5-5.

Kansas City was unable to score in their half of the ninth, while the Twins pushed three across in the tenth.

Dennys Reyes recorded the win. Joe Nathan pitched a perfect tenth to get the save.
