On the night Phillies second baseman Chase Utley had his 35-game hitting streak ended, the Cardinals were unable to end a streak they have of their own. St. Louis lost to the Brewers 4-3, extending their losing streak to eight games.

Almost overshadowing the loss, was the fact that starter Chris Carpenter left the game with a swollen thumb after taking a hit off his hand. Carpenter was pitching decently, having allowed four runs in six innings, but the Brewers had already done their damage by that point. Adam Wainright and Jason Isringhausen held the Brewers scoreless over the last three innings.

Tony Graffanino had three hits and scored two runs. Batting right behind Graffanino, Prince Fielder was able to capitalize going 3-for-4 with two RBI, including a home run in the third.

Brewers Starter Doug Davis earned the win allowing three runs on six hits in 5.2 innings. Francisco Cordero earned the save.
