Players and coaches never want to wish harm on their opponents, but they don’t complain when bad things do occur in their favor. Big 12 teams received monumental news when it was announced that University of Oklahoma starting quarterback Rhett Bomar was dismissed from the team along with another Sooner teammate.

Bomar and sophomore guard J.D. Quinn were both let go after an investigation by the team discovered Bomar and Quinn had violated NCAA rules regarding athlete employment. OU says both players worked for a private business and took “payment over an extended period of time in excess of time actually worked.”

Bomar came to OU in 2004 after an extremely successful high school career. He redshirted during his first season while watching starter Jason White win the Heisman Trophy. Oklahoma named Paul Thompson the opening game starter last season, but head coach Bob Stoops switched his decision after the Sooners lost to TCU.

Last season, Bomar set a school freshman with 2,018 passing yards. He started the last 11 games for the Sooners throwing 10 touchdowns and 10 interceptions.

Bomar was highly regarded as a possible Heisman Trophy candidate this season. Oklahoma was voted to win the Big 12 South division and compete for the National Championship.
