It’s hot, really hot, but a bit of relief should be coming. A large high pressure system has stalled over the mid-section of the country, according to National Weather Service Meteorologist Evan Bookbinder. The system of excessive heat has spread over 19 states. Bookbinder expects triple digits across much of the state today, with a cold front pushing the high pressure system along beginning early tomorrow in northern Missouri. It might take a while for the rest of the state to begin feeling the benefits. Central Missouri is likely to remain hot through Wednesday. Southern Missouri might swelter until sometime on Thursday, when the new front works its way down the state. Even with such relief in site, it’s still Missouri and it’s still August. Bookbinder says the pattern of hot and dry weather appears to be settled in for the remainder of the month. During this time of extreme heat; take it easy outside with plenty of breaks, drink plenty of water or sports drinks, wear light loose-fitting clothing and get out of the heat and into air-conditioning.
