State Revenue Department officials are optimistic they can get photo identification into the hands of voters for November’s election, the Secretary of State seems a little less so, but some county election officials who will deal directly with voters are not convinced photo identifications will be done in time. Mike Hepler is the president of the Missouri Association of County Clerks and Election Authorities and the county clerk for North Central Missouri’s Sullivan County. He worries too many voters will become disenfranchised because they won’t have or won’t bring their photo ID to the polls and will get frustrated by the long process of casting a provisional ballot. Hepler says he wanted the whole thing to start two years from now, but state lawmakers ignored that request.
