Federal legislation to ensure school-aged children get early vision care has been introduced on Capitol Hill, by Senator Kit Bond. Bond says undiagnosed and untreated vision prolems for children can have serious repercussions, affecting a child’s cognitive, emotional, neurological, and physical development. The Vision Care for Kids Act of 2006 would establish a grant program to compliment and encourage existing state efforts to improve chilcren’s vision care and educate parents, teachers, and health care professionals about healthy vision. Bond says this is a non-controversial bill, meaning it has a good chance of getting through Congress before year’s end.)
