The chairman of a group pushing Missouri’s stem cell amendment going before voters this fall says the debate in the U.S. Senate over federal funding of embryonic stem cell research won’t affect what the group is trying to get passed here. The Missouri Coalition for Lifesaving Cures’ Donn Rubin says the Castle Bill, expected to be passed but also expected to be vetoed, won’t impact Missouri’s stem cell amendment. Rubin says the measure in this state merely addresses whether Missouri researchers will be treated as researchers in other states. Rubin admits individual members of his coalition might be siding for the Castle Bill, but the coalition is sticking to its singular purpose of getting the state stem cell amendment passed.
