Governor Matt Blunt has signed legislation creating tax credit programs to benefit pregnancy resource centers and to help so-called children in crisis. House Bill 1485 authorizes an income tax credit for 50 percent of contributions to qualified pregnancy resource centers. Those centers offer abortion alternatives to women facing unplanned pregnancies. Unused adoption tax credits would also be made available to entities that work directly with children in crisis. Under the law, taxpayers will be able to claim up to $50,000 each year, with a $2-Million statewide cap each year. Signing ceremonies have been held in Columbia, St. Louis, Lee’s Summit, Springfield, and Joplin.
