The Royals let a two-run lead slip away late in the game as they dropped a 6-5 decision to the Twins.

Minnesota trailed 5-1 going into the eighth inning but never gave up, scoring three runs in the inning and walking away with their 11th win in a row.

Justin Morneau and Joe Mauer both homered for the Twins. Morneau’s two-run shot gave Minnesota a 2-0 lead in the second. Mauer’s dinger came in the sixth with the Twins up a run.

Kansas City had a big inning of their own in the bottom half of the sixth. Third baseman Mark Teahen was hit by a pitch that scored David DeJesus. Angel Berroa capped off the inning with a bases clearing triple for his game-high three RBIs.

Twins starter Johan Santana had a sub par outing giving up five runs –four earned – on six hits in 5.2 innings, but the bullpen did its job keeping the Cardinals scoreless the rest of the way. Jesse Crain took the decision.
