The Springfield Cardinals didn’t help themselves – committing three errors – but it was Wladimir Balentien’s grand slam and five RBIs the doomed the Cardinals in a 8-4 loss to San Antonio.

Balentien has been scorching hot as of late, homering in four of his last six games. He won last week’s Home Run Derby at the Texas League All-Star Game and it was his bases loaded slam that sparked a five-run first inning for the Missions.

Jesus Guzman also homered in the game for San Antonio, a two run homer in the sixth.

Springfield starter Mike Parisi got off to a bad start en route to allowing six runs on seven hits in five innings.

Terry Evans homered to lead off the seventh inning and Shaun Boyd scored twice for the Cardinals.

Springfield is just 1-3 in the second half of the Texas League after finishing second in the first half, one game behind champion Tulsa.
