A meeting, Tuesday, in St. Louis will give business leaders a chance to discuss the role of the business community in the 2006 elections. Associated Industries of Missouri is helping to organize this get together. AIM President Gary Marble says it is important for business to show voters how the state’s business climate has improved, in recent years, and to keep the good times coming. He points to such things as litigation reform, workers’ compensation reform, and changes to the unemployment insurance system as examples of how the business climate has been improved. Marble says state elections will be the main political focus of this gathering of AIM, the National Association of Manufacturers, and other business interests. That includes races for the Missouri House, the Missouri Senate, and ballot initiatives. The main ballot initiative is one that would raise the minimum wage. The business community opposes a minimum wage hike, saying it would harm businesses and might, therefore, be harmful to the state as a whole.
