Lawmakers next year might be asked to approve an additional fee to cell phone bills to extend 911 emergency calling to cell phones. Voters twice have rejected the fees. As a result, only a handful of counties have emergency telephone service that extends to wireless phones. Macon County Enhanced 911 Director Mike Kindle says the importance of the issue grows as more and more Missourians go all wireless. Kindle says a review of the law indicates the Legislature can approve the cell phone charge without voter approval.
