The Cardinals and White Sox combined to put up a football score. The only problem for St. Louis fans is the Redbirds were scoring field goals while the Sox were scoring touchdowns in a 20-6 destruction.
Mark Mulder had the worst outing of his career allowing nine runs in just 2.1 innings. It’s the third inning that Mulder probably wants to forget the fastest. Chicago got a hit from every starter and put together 11 runs in the game breaking third. It didn’t take long for the Sox to do their damage either. The nine runs they scored on Mulder came on less than 25 pitches.
The bullpen didn’t provide much relief for Mulder. Five relievers combined to give up 11 more runs in 5.2 innings. Brad Thompson came in to replace Mulder and picked up right where the southpaw left off surrendering four runs on five hits in 1.2 innings. Sidney Ponson gave up six runs in one inning failing to help his cause of getting back into the starting lineup.
Westphalia, MO product, Joe Crede, torched his childhood team going 4-for-5 with three RBIs including two home runs.
