The one-tenth-of-a-cent parks and soils sales tax is up for renewal, to be presented to voters in August. One question that came up at a rally to kick off the summer-long campaign to get it passed was “what about the disproportionate amount of money collected in urban areas but spent in rural areas?” Don Fisher, co-chair of the effort to renew the taxm represents rural interests on that committee. He says everyone benefits from the reduction of soil erosion into rural water sources. Urban proponents of the measure also point to the oasis they enjoy when able to escape to state parks in rural areas and the lower food bills courtesy of the programs that help Missouri farmers.
