The Cardinals got eight solid innings from starter Jason Marquis in an 8-1 win over the Rockies Friday. Marquis’ win was just the fourth win by a Cardinals starter this month. In his eight innings of work, Marquis allowed just one run on five hits while striking out three. The lone mistake by Marquis came on a solo shot by Brad Hawpe that cut the Cardinals 2-0 lead in half.

St. Louis scored two runs in the fourth inning of a game that was pretty quiet offensively for both teams. That was until the eighth when the Cardinals erupted for six runs in the inning.

Jim Edmonds, Scott Spiezio, Hector Luna, and Timo Perez all drove in runs during the crucial eighth.

The Cardinals have won four of five and are 5-5 without injured slugger Albert Pujols in the lineup.
