The town is gone now. But once it was one of the most flourishing towns in the entire state, once one of the important trade centers of the West. It was the beginning point of one of America’s most important trails west and an important way station on another important commercial thoroughfare, the Missouri River. But it was the river that eventually brought about the downfall and ultimate disappearance of the community of Franklin.
