Mike Parisi pitched seven shut out innings allowing just two hits and striking out 10 but only earned a no decision. Yes, that’s right, a no decision. That’s because Arkansas’ starter Jesse Smith pretty much matched Parisi’s performance. Smith went 6.2 innings giving up no runs on five hits.

Neither team could produce a run against the starters. It wasn’t until Arkansas went to the bullpen that someone crossed the plate. Josh Pressley’s RBI ground out and Jarrett Hoffpauir’s RBI double in the eighth gave the Cardinals a 2-0 win.

The shut out is the first for Springfield this year. Parisi’s 10 strikeouts set a franchise record for strikeouts in a game. The previous record was shared by Parisi and Chris Lambert with nine.

Reliever Rich Scalamandre picked up the scraps, pitched a perfect eighth inning, and got the win. Mark Worrell pitched the ninth striking out two earning his 17th save of the year.

The Cardinals are 37-26 and have won five straight.
