The Cardinal’s players had the day off Monday, but the front office personnel was hard at work.

St. Louis selected 53 players in last week’s draft. Monday, eight of them were signed to contracts. Among the 45 not yet signed is first round pick Adam Ottavino. The 6-foot-5 righthander from Northeastern is expected to sign in the next couple of days.

Second round choice, lefthanded pitcher from Texas Christian, Brad Furnish signed. Local prep standout Travis Mitchell, from Parkway Central High, the team’s 13th-round pick signed as well.

The other players that signed were catcher David Carpenter (12th round), third baseman Jared Schweitzer (30), outfielder Mark Shorey (31), second baseman Isaias Garcia (34), pitcher Logan Collier (37), and left handed pitcher Matt Michael (39).
