The season was looking so promising for the Springfield Cardinals. They were winning games at an alarming rate and built a lead in the Texas League North standings that ranged anywhere from 2-5 games. All of a sudden, things have come crashing down.
Springfield has lost six of their last ten and has fallen two games back of Tulsa in the standings. Sunday, they wasted three runs in the first inning to lose to Frisco 4-3.
Frisco starter Ryan Jensen was shaky early on but recovered in time to get the win. Jensen pitched seven innings giving up six hits and three runs in a winning effort. Jesse Chavez pitched the ninth to get the save.
Adam Morrissey hit a solo homer in the sixth for the RoughRiders. He continued to hurt the Cardinals with a two-run double in the seventh that put Frisco on top.
The game started well for Springfield. Cody Haerther started a two-out rally with a single. Rico Washington followed with a walk. Juan Richardson brought everyone in with an inside-the-park home run.
Cardinals starter Jordan Pals pitched well enough to get the win, but reliever Cory Doyne coughed up the lead. Doyne gave up three runs on two hits and only retired one batter to take the loss.
