Jim Edmonds is no longer in the clouds. He is however, still in pain, a lot of pain.

Wednesday, doctors diagnosed Edmonds’ pain as a result of a lower abdominal strain. The injury has kept Edmonds out of the starting lineup since Friday. The irritation feels like a stabbing sensation and hampers his ability to accelerate from a standstill which is what he does every game in center field. Edmonds has said that it doesn’t effect his hitting.

Lower abdominal strains can cause doctors to place a fabric mesh to hold the tissue in place. Philadelphia Eagles star Donovan McNabb suffered the same injury in week 10 of the NFL season and it shelved him from then on. Increased knowledge of the injury and improvements in technology has cut the rehab time to only six weeks. Edmonds has been ruled day-to-day. He is expected to be placed on the disabled list by Friday’s game against the Cubs.
