Now that the Memorial Day weekend has come and gone, the Summer vacation season is underway, and Branson remains a major attraction. Early indications are this could be a banner year for Branson. Peter Herschend, Vice Chairman and Co-Owner of the parent company of Silver Dollar City, says attendance is running about 14 percent ahead of last year’s numbers. And, he says other Branson theme parks and attractions are experiencing similar good fortune. As for fears that higher gas prices could hurt Branson tourism, he doesn’t think there will be any negative impact. Herschend says for people living in the Midwest, a trip to Branson might cost about $20 to $25 more than it would have a year ago – not enough to keep people away. Herschend says reservations and other barometers indicate a good Summer is in store for Branson businesses.
