The attorneys involved in the legal challenge to the petition initiative to limit the growth of government spending will meet with Cole County Circuit Judge Richard Callahan on Monday, June 12th, for what is called a counsel status hearing. Basically, it’s an opportunity for the lawyers to discuss where they are and how or whether to proceed. The legal challenge might be rendered moot by a decision, this week, by Secretary of State Robin Carnahan to reject the petition signatures for both the government spending initiative and an initiative on eminent domain. In making that decision, Carnahan also announced neither of the initiatives would appear on the November ballot. Supporters of the two initiatives – a group known as Missourians in Charge – have ten days from Thursday’s announcement to appeal the Secretary’s decision.
