The Midland Rockhounds got a spectacular game from Kurt Suzuki. The designated hitter went 3-for-5 in leading Midland to a 5-3 win over the Springfield Cardinals.

Suzuki drove in Ronnie Merrill Jr. in the third on an RBI double that tied the game at two. He later scored to break the tie on a sacrifice fly by Matthew Allegra. Another double by Suzuki in the fourth scored Kevin Melillo. Suzuki struck again with an RBI single in the fifth to score Lloyd Turner for the final Rockhounds run.

The Cardinals lost for the first time in four games. Juan Richardson hit a two-run homer in the second, but it wasn’t enough to bail out losing pitcher Rich Rundles. Josh Pressley had a hit for Springfield to extend his hitting streak to 10 games.

Despite the loss, the Cardinals still have a two-game lead on Tulsa for first place in the Texas League North standings.
