Missouri State men’s basketball coach Barry Hinson knows success breeds success. That is probably why he has announced that Steve Woodberry will be the newest member to the Bear’s coaching staff.
Woodberry will fill the void left by former assistant Troy Collier who departed to help coach Ball State.
Woodberry has a track record of winning. He played for legendary Kansas coach Roy Williams from 1990 – 1994 and played in four NCAA tournaments in that time. He was a freshman on the KU team that lost to Duke in the title game. During his junior year, Kansas lost in the Final Four to North Carolina. Over the span of his four years as a Jayhawk, Woodberry finished with a playing record of 110-28. Never did he lose double-digit games in a season.
The new Bear’s coach played a short time in the NBA before going overseas to play in Australia. His success continued over there as well, he won the league MVP award one year.
Woodberry retired from playing basketball in 2005 and coached AAU basketball last summer.
