One of Missouri’s great dining traditions could be endangered by the State Transportation Department’s plans to improve a busy intersection in Sedalia. Owners of the Wheel Inn restaurant at the intersection of highways 50 and 65 say the improvements could force their diner to close after 60 years of business. The Wheel Inn is known for the Guberburger – which dates back to 1948. Thousands of localsa and tourists have wolfed down the hamburger patty covered with melted peanut butter, lettuce, tomato, and mayonaisse. It’s been featured in at least two movies – a French film called “Miss Missouri,” made in 1990, and “Hamburger America,” released earlier this year about eight family restaurants that serve special hamburgers.
