The State Senate has completed work on legislation that cracks down on Medicaid fraud. It’s part of a bill that would usher in a number of healthcare reforms. The fraud component of the bill increases the crime of fraud to a felony and requires those convicted a second time of provider fraud to serve at least 85 percent of their sentences before becoming eligible for parole. It also bans perpetrators from taking part in the state program for ten years. The bill now goes to the House on this, the final day of the 2006 regular legislative session.
