The Springfield Cardinals were engaged in a classic pitcher’s duel with the San Antonio Missions Tuesday. But it was the Cardinals who managed to sneak away with a 2-1 win in 10 innings.

Cardinals starter Chris Lambert went six innings giving up just one run on four its. His counterpart Travis Blakely was equally as good. He pitched six innings of no-hit ball before giving up a hit in the seventh. Blakely pitched seven innings surrendering one run on two hits and struck out seven. Ironically, none of the two pitchers factored into the decision.

The game went into extra innings tied at one. The Missions were unable to score in their half of the tenth. The Cardinals, on the other hand, decided enough was enough. Mission’s reliever Jon Huber gave up singles to Iker Franco and Juan Richardson to start the tenth. Two outs later, hero Jarrett Hoffpauir singled in the winning run to give the Cardinals their fourth consecutive win.

Franco extended his hitting streak to 17 games going 2-for-4.

Andy Cavazos got the win after giving up one run in two innings improving his record to 2-2.

The Cardinals are 20-11 and up 3.5 games over Tulsa in the Texas League North standings.
