The Springfield Cardinals and San Antonio Missions did all their scoring in the seventh inning and it proved to be enough for Springfield, which took a 3-1 decision at Hammons Field Sunday.

After Wladdimir Balentien hit a two-out homer in the top of the seventh to give the Missions a 1-0 lead, the Cardinals responded with three runs in the bottom half of the frame. Brian Martin led off the seventh with a homer for Springfield to tie it 1-1. Later in the inning, with no outs, Gabe Johnson singled in Iker Franko to give the Cardinals a 2-1 lead. Juan Richardson later scored on a sacrifice bunt from Jarrett Hoffpauir to make it 3-1.

Springfield starting pitcher Rich Rundles (3-1) lasted into the eighth inning and allowed one run off five hits and a walk with five strikeouts to get the win. Relievers Mark Worrell and Andy Cavazos held San Antonio hitless with no walks to keep the lead intact. Worrell got his eighth save of the season.

The Cardinals are 18-11 and have a 2.5-game lead over Memphis in the Texas League North.
