The Legislature has voted to let small businesses have more strength in negotiating the prices of health insurance coverage for their workers. Lawmakers have passed a bill letting small businesses form purchasing consortiums to buy insurance. Senate sponsor Jack Goodman of Mount Vernon says a two-year pilot project in southwest Missouri shows the value of the new system. He says the companies have seen premium reductions of as much as 40 percent because of the larger numbers of employees getting insurance.
