They are the children adoption seems to have forgotten about. A photographic exhibit is touring Missouri to raise awareness of the foster children looking for a permanent home. About 2,000 of the approximately 10,000 children in Missouri’s foster care system will never return to their natural-born families. An exhibit of just a few photographs of those smiling faces hoping for a new family to adopt them is making it’s way through the state, with the first stop at the Capitol in Jefferson City. Adrienne Boileau Murphy is the chair of the Heart Gallery, the photographic section of the non-profit group The Adoption Exchange. Murphy says too many Missourians are unaware of the children up for adoption here in the state and seek adoption out of the country. She says a photographic exhibit such as the one moving through Missouri has been successful in other states, getting more foster children into permnent homes. About 200 professionally-done portraits will be on display at the Capitol. The display will also make stops in St. Louis, Springfield, Kansas City, and Joplin.
