The U.S. Supreme Court has declined to hear a case brought forward by North Dakota and South Dakota that would re-prioritize the management of the Missouri River to make recreation the top priority for the reservoir system, and not flood control and navigation as outlined by Congress back in the 1940s. Missouri Attorney General Jay Nixon says it’s a victory for interests in this state, but he doesn’t believe the decision will help stop a proposed manmade flood on the Missouri next month. The Army Corps of Engineers manages a system of reservoirs on the Missouri River in the upper part of the basin.
