Southeast Missouri Congressman JoAnn Emerson is at a loss to explain how an obscenity made it into a letter sent to a constituent. It was a letter from Bill Jones of Centerville, asking Emrson about testimony given, last year, to the Senate Commerce Committee. Her responding letter ended with the phrase, “I think you’re an …” The offensive word is a seven-letter slang term often used to refer to a part of the anatomy … or to a person who isn’t quite “with it.” Emerson says it’s unclear whether the profanity was made by someone in her office or by someone with access to the office. But she has apologized, saying there is no excuse for this letter having been sent.
